ok so I know this book has a casual reputation for being full of tangents and asides, but having spent the last several chapters getting the brief history of M. sur M. and Madeleine, Javert being introduced, etc., only for Fantine’s arrival to loop us finally back around. . .this feels not like a meander at all, but epic in scope and I am really digging it.
